Paul Scholes Lays into Manchester United After Latest Underwhelming Performance

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes laid into manager Louis van Gaal following another insipid performance in Saturday's 1-0 win over Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

Scholes won 25 trophies in 20 years at Old Trafford, but he admits his patience is wearing thin with the club's current crop.

"I've tried to defend this team for the last two or three weeks, but it's getting more and more difficult to do because every time you come to Old Trafford, this is what you see," he said.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League but have struggled for goals all season, scoring just 24 times in 20 games. Saturday's FA Cup third-round win over League One Sheffield United came courtesy of a 93rd-minute penalty from Wayne Rooney.
