Lleyton Hewitt Successfully Challenges Point After Advice from Honest Opponent
Tom Webb
May 31, 2018There was a remarkable display of sportsmanship in Perth on Tuesday when Lleyton Hewitt successfully challenged a serve that had been called out—on the advice of his opponent, Jack Sock.
The pair were competing in a Hopman Cup match when a Hewitt serve was called out by a line judge. The Australian returned to the service line and prepared to serve again, only for Sock to shout, "That was in, if you want to challenge it."
Clearly surprised by his opponent's good sportsmanship, Hewitt took a moment before taking up the offer. And to the delight of Hewitt and the crowd alike, replays showed the serve had landed in, and the point was overturned.
