Nike Air Jordan 2 Retro 'Radio Raheem' Release Date, Pics and Retail Price
Ever since its release in 1989, the legacy of Do the Right Thing has only grown as the film looks more and more prescient in retrospect. Jordan Brand will honor the Spike Lee classic with the upcoming Air Jordan 2 "Radio Raheem."
According to Brendan Dunne of Sole Collector, the sneaker will drop Saturday and retail for $170, and Sneaker Bar Detroit provided a few snapshots:
Lee has long been connected with Nike and Jordan Brand, most famously in his role as Mars Blackmon alongside Michael Jordan. Various Nike shoes also featured heavily in Do the Right Thing, with Radio Raheem's pair of Nike Air Revolutions being one of the last images of the film.
The blue and black colorway doesn't automatically evoke memories of Do the Right Thing, which might disappoint fans of the movie. The eyelets are, however, a nice touch and much closer to the memorable T-shirt worn by Radio Raheem, per Villa:
Simply as a standalone sneaker, the Air Jordan 2 "Radio Raheem" is a great addition to the line. The dominant colors complement each other perfectly, and the Air Jordan 2 is a legendary shoe in its own right.
The "Radio Raheem" also includes enough design elements to ensure it genuinely carries a connection to Do the Right Thing.
This would be a great addition for any collector.
