Barcelona Transfer News: Denis Suarez Move Dependent on Real Madrid, Top Rumours

Rory MarsdenJan 4, 2016

Denis Suarez's mooted January move to Barcelona is reportedly under threat because of Real Madrid's hesitance in selling Denis Cheryshev to Villarreal.

According to Lluis Miguelsanz in Spanish outlet Sport, "talks are advanced" over Suarez's move to the Camp Nou, but the Yellow Submarine are not prepared to let it go through until they find a replacement, with Cheryshev being their top target.

Thus, Real's reported refusal to sell the Russian winger is consequently preventing Barcelona from signing Suarez, a player they need if they are to add necessary strength to their squad for the second half of the season.

Per Miguelsanz, Villarreal are not obliged to sell Suarez back to Barca—his buy-back clause does not become active until the summer—but the 21-year-old is eager to return to the Camp Nou and the two clubs are prepared to do business.

But Barca's archrivals could yet deal them a hammer blow in the transfer market if Suarez ends up staying at Villarreal for the rest of the season.

Villarreal manager Marcelino recently indicated Suarez, formerly of Manchester City, is set to move to Barca in January, per Spanish football writer Dermot Corrigan:

The youngster has been a bright spark for Villarreal this season, netting three goals and three assists, per WhoScored.com.

He would be an excellent buy for the Catalans as he is already familiar with the club, would be good value at the Sport-reported €3 million and is only likely to improve given more experience.

With Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi all likely to need a rest as the 2015-16 season trundles on, the versatile forward could provide excellent back-up.

In all likelihood, the deal will go through in January even if Villarreal fail to snap up Cheryshev, but the move may be delayed as the Madrigal outfit look for an alternative replacement.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have reportedly priced second-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen at £20 million, a move that could rule out a Liverpool swoop for the German.

According to Simon Mullock in the Mirror, the Reds are prepared to offer £12 million for the 23-year-old but Barca would demand significantly more.

As the No. 2 stopper at Barca behind Claudio Bravo, Ter Stegen has played only four times in La Liga this season, per WhoScored.com

He deserves a chance to play more consistently, and football writer Clark Whitney is concerned Barcelona's demands could affect the young goalkeeper's career:

The Spanish giants clearly want to be well remunerated if they are to sell on a player of Ter Stegen's quality, but they could simply put off suitors and further alienate a player who undoubtedly wants more first-team action, whether at Barca or elsewhere.
