PDC William Hill World Darts Championship 2016: Semi-Final Scores and Results

Gianni VerschuerenJan 2, 2016

Adrian Lewis and defending champion Gary Anderson will meet in Sunday's final of the 2016 PDC William Hill World Darts Championship after both won their semi-final matches in comfortable fashion.

The Flying Scotsman continued his hot form with a 6-0 win over Jelle Klaasen, while Jackpot took a 5-0 lead against Raymond van Barneveld before the latter attempted another incredible comeback.

Barney previously knocked out compatriot Michael van Gerwen and recovered from a deficit to beat Michael Smith in the quarter-finals, but his luck ran out on Saturday.

Recap

Similar to his quarter-final performance against James Wade, Anderson started his last-four encounter against Klaasen in superb fashion. The defending champion finally ended the nine-darter drought in the very first set, sending Alexandra Palace into a delirium:

The Flying Scotsman carried his momentum into the second set, taking a 2-0 lead with a ridiculous average of 113 before throwing another six perfect darts on his way to an 11-darter in the third set. A 142 checkout from Anderson put Klaasen in a serious hole, but the Dutchman seemed to be enjoying himself, as even he appeared in awe of Anderson.

The fourth set brought more of the same, and another whitewash took the Flying Scotsman to within a single set of the final. Live Darts shared these stats, highlighting just how dominant Anderson was:

Klaasen managed to win his seventh leg of the match by taking out 85, but he was forced to watch as Anderson won the next three legs, booking his spot in the final.

Earlier, Van Barneveld nearly managed to continue his run of unlikely comebacks, but ultimately came up short against Lewis in the first semi-final of the day.

The Dutchman lost the first five sets of the best-of-11 match before winning three on the bounce, prompting this reaction from PDC Darts:

Barney certainly didn't play horrible in the first few sets, but Jackpot came out firing and was solid on the doubles. Van Barneveld missed two in his first attempt, setting the tone for a one-sided opening stage.

Lewis conceded just two legs in the first three sets and seemed to reserve his best darts whenever the two faced off on the checkout. In the fourth set, he nailed a 12-darter to force a deciding leg, before expanding his lead by taking out tops.

Down 5-0, Van Barneveld's chances of progressing to the final seemed non-existent, but once again, the crowd favourite refused to go away quietly. Taking out 112 for his first set win, PDC Darts anticipated what was about to come next:

He immediately broke throw in the next leg, and while Lewis gave himself the chance to throw for the match with an 11-darter in the seventh set, Barney kept his cool to win a decider.

Another lost decider in the eighth set had Jackpot slightly nervous, but he finally booked his ticket for the final in the ninth, missing one match dart before taking out 83.

Per Live Darts, Lewis thought he handled the pressure well:

Lewis has two titles at Ally Pally under his belt, and Jackpot has every reason to believe in his chances in the final. But Anderson is playing the best darts of his career right now, and if he can keep up this form for one more match, a second consecutive title should be in the bag.
