Liverpool Transfer News: Martin Caceres Offer Reported, Latest Reds Rumours

Liverpool have made their move to sign Juventus outcast Martin Caceres this winter, but the Reds won't be getting their hands on Paris Saint-Germain's Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Metro's George Bellshaw cited Spanish outlet Don Balon as reporting the Premier League giants have joined Internazionale and Fenerbahce by making an official offer for Caceres, who hasn't played for Juventus since September.

The Uruguayan was suspended and fined by the Serie A giants after allegedly crashing his Ferrari while drunk in September, per Ansa (h/t BBC Sport), and it's reported he's free to leave Turin in the January window.

With the defender's contract set to expire next summer, Liverpool could look to make a cut-price move for Caceres' signature. According to David Amoyal, a translator for Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 28-year-old could still be a valuable asset at top-flight level:

Although his disciplinary issues might be considered a problem, Caceres could be considered a useful arrival for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp considering he can play in central defence or either full-back role.

The Reds could use the back-up in those areas too, after summer signing Joe Gomez suffered a serious knee injury. Additionally, academy graduate Jon Flanagan is only just making his return from a knee injury of his own.

Another player whose contract is set to expire in 2016 is PSG winger Lavezzi, but the Merseysiders have been told he's more likely to move back to Italy at the end of the campaign.

Lavezzi's agent, Alejandro Mazzoni, told Italian radio station Radio CRC his client will remain at Parc des Princes for the remainder of the campaign and decide his future in the summer (h/t Charlie Philippe of the Daily Express):

"

At the moment I see no real possibility, the player will not leave in January. PSG are doing very well in the Champions League and they want to go as far as possible, that could therefore hinder a Lavezzi departure in January. Next June, Lavezzi will quietly choose his team for next season.

Lavezzi is out of contract and is nostalgic for Italy. His return to Serie A is a possibility.

"

The former Napoli wide man has seen his worth to the PSG squad diminish in the last 18 months, leading to fervent speculation he'll leave the French capital in January.

According to South American broadcaster Juan Arango, Brazilian Serie A outfit Flamengo have made an offer to sign the winger:

Klopp's side could look to sign Lavezzi as a more experienced wing option after selling Raheem Sterling to Manchester City over the summer, with the likes of Jordon Ibe, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana used as his primary wide options.

Despite featuring in a minor role under Laurent Blanc this season, Lavezzi will likely remain at the club until the end of the season, although Liverpool could still attempt to come to a pre-contract agreement with the Argentinian.
