The Liverpool Echo's James Pearce confirmed Flanagan played 30 minutes in the Liverpool under-21s' friendly meeting with Fleetwood Town, adding that a cameo appearance "was always the plan."
Flanagan's Flexibility Highly Useful to Klopp
The 23-year-old last turned out for Liverpool against Newcastle United on May 11, 2014 and missed the entire 2014-15 campaign after undergoing two serious operations on his left knee.
Flanagan could be a particularly useful addition to the Reds' squad, considering he's capable in both full-back roles and will offer support to the likes of Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne.
Liverpool already lost summer signing Joe Gomez to a knee injury earlier this season, and manager Jurgen Klopp will be eager to welcome back any reinforcements he can get his hands on.
