Ron Wolf: Latest News, Rumors and Speculation on Former GM

Mike NorrisDec 28, 2015

Former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf recently spoke with Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, but a formal discussion regarding a possible role with the Browns for the Pro Football Hall of Fame GM did not take place, per Jason Wilde of ESPN.com.

Questions Surround Wolf's Future

Monday, Dec. 28

Wolf denied that the Browns offered him a consulting position, per Wilde.

"Right now, honestly, there is no truth to that," he said. "That has taken on a life of its own based on [one] conversation with the Haslams. Nothing has been said. He hasn't asked me, [and] he hasn't told me he wants me to [serve as a consultant], so there's no truth to it."

While Wolf denied receiving an offer, he left the door open, especially after being asked if a consulting position would be of interest to him. "I don't dislike that," he said, per Wilde. "I'm open to almost anything."

His son, Eliot, is the Packers' director of player personnel and could be a possible replacement for Browns GM Ray Farmer if the team lets him go at the end of the season.

According to Wilde, Ron Wolf said he will not be involved in any way if Cleveland hires his son. "No, no. That's already come up," Wolf said. "I told [Haslam] that that is an entirely different situation. He'd have to do that himself. I would not be a part of it."

It makes sense for the struggling Browns to look Wolf's way after the success he had in Green Bay. The Packers won a Super Bowl with Wolf as the general manager in 1996 and went 92-52 while he held the position from 1992 to 2000.
