Everett Golson to Miss 2015 Peach Bowl: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Adam WellsDec 26, 2015

Senior quarterback Everett Golson will not be with the Florida State Seminoles for the 2015 Peach Bowl against Houston on Dec. 31.

Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post reported that Golson did not make the trip with the team and his career at Florida State is "over." Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher told D'Angelo that Golson is "home on a personal issue."

Golson has been away from the program for some time, as Brendan Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel noted the signal-caller was not at Florida State's last open practice on Dec. 18 when Fisher said Golson's grandmother died.

The Seminoles will be missing a dimension to their offense without Golson, though he wasn't seeing much playing time recently.

After starting Florida State's first seven games, Golson missed two games after suffering a concussion on Oct. 24 against Georgia Tech. When he was healthy enough to return, Fisher stuck with Sean Maguire as his starter for the rest of the season.

Golson did see limited action against North Carolina State and Chattanooga, throwing a total of 12 passes in those two games.

This has been an interesting year for Golson, who transferred to Florida State from Notre Dame in May. He finished this season with solid numbers, including 11 touchdowns and three interceptions in 219 attempts, but wasn't able to elevate the program to some of the heights it reached with Jameis Winston.

Golson did put together an overall successful college career with an appearance in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, but his tenure will be marred by missing a season due to academic issues and being unable to build on that first year with the Fighting Irish.
