Brees Doesn't Need Surgery
Tuesday, Jan. 5
Mike Triplett of ESPN reported, via colleague Ed Werder, that Brees had his foot evaluated by Dr. Robert Anderson. Anderson ruled out surgery but did recommend four-to-six weeks of rest, which would jeopardize Brees' ability to play in the Pro Bowl if he was selected as an alternate.
Particularly worrisome is the fact that his typical durability, which has allowed him to play all but one regular-season contest since 2005 entering the 2015 campaign, has been tested at age 36.
Brees had 4,870 passing yards and 32 total touchdowns in 15 games this season and also became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to reach 60,000 career passing yards during his team’s Week 15 game against the Detroit Lions.
He is a nine-time Pro Bowler and won the 2009 Super Bowl MVP after leading the Saints to the promised land as the face of the franchise.
This shouldn't impact his ability to play next season, and his not needing surgery warrants a huge sigh of relief for the aging quarterback.
