Venezuelan Baseball Player Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam, Flips Bat into Low Orbit
I'm confident that somewhere, Jose Bautista's nose tingled as the ball came off Jesus Guzman's bat.
Because Guzman, a former playing for del Caracas in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, cracked a walk-off grand slam over the weekend that is worthy of an epic poem.
And there's only one way to celebrate a hit like that: a bat flip into space.
SB Nation's James spotted footage of the hit and ensuing flip. Guzman sent the bat high enough to come down covered in frost.
With all due deference to Bautista, this might be the most ridiculous bat flip of 2015. Combine the fact that it was a grand slam with the altitude of the flip and multiply it by the power of the exploding fireworks, and it makes a compelling argument.
In any case, I'm just glad the bat made it back to Earth safely. Re-entry is so dangerous.
Dan is on Twitter. He's all for saving money on space exploration and just sending sports equipment to Mars.
