Joey Barton Believes Pep Guardiola Would Keep Just 6 Manchester City Starters

Former Newcastle, Manchester City and QPR midfielder Joey Barton is well known for making no secret of his footballing opinions.

And the 33-year-old, now with Burnley in the Championship, has had his say on the depth and quality of City's squad.

Tweeting during the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Monday night, Barton claimed that if the rumours about Pep Guardiola's potential arrival at the Etihad are true, he should only keep half a dozen of City's starters.

Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Sergio Aguero make the cut, but there are—in Barton's mind, at least—some gaping holes to plug in defence and midfield.

Spaniard Guardiola has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester after confirming he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
