Aubameyang Comments on Dortmund Future
Monday, Dec. 21
The Gabon international put Dortmund supporters at ease, telling Kicker (h/t Sky Sports):
"I am very happy here. The people here accept me for who I am. Dortmund has become my second home. I learnt a lot through the clubs I've played for previously [AC Milan, Dijon, Lille, Monaco] both negative and positive. It's made me a better person.
Every goal I score feels like the first. It's a special feeling to play in front of these fans. I don't know my limits yet. I set personal goals every season, that's very important to me. I have improved in every year I've been at Dortmund.
"
It’s been a remarkable campaign for Aubameyang, who has progressed from a capricious forward into a refined, dynamic goalscorer.
At the point of Thomas Tuchel’s vibrant Dortmund team, he’s been exceptional, netting a stream of goals to ensure BVB are keeping in touch with Bayern Munich at the top and well clear of the chasing pack. Before the winter break, he'd scored an impressive 18 goals in 17 Bundesliga matches.
The Premier League does seem like an ideal division for the player. Aubameyang is renowned for his blistering speed, but he’s also strong on the ball, understatedly creative and a player who can thrive on either flank, too. Now he’s added goals to his game, there are few more influential forwards in European football at the moment.
Here's a recap of some of his standout moments from this season:
However, a January sale always seemed unlikely for the versatile forward. Dortmund are still clinging on in the title race and will be seeking to close the gap to Bayern after the winter break. They’re also one of the big favourites to win the Europa League, too.
Aubameyang will naturally play a critical part if they’re to achieve these aims, and with the man himself happy at the Ruhr club, there’s no danger of a midseason departure. But should he continue scoring at such a prolific rate, there’ll surely be much more serious interest come the summer months.
