This referee found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was shoved out of bounds after a long run against the New York Giants on Sunday.

On 1st-and-10 at midfield midway through the first quarter, Newton took off with the football and picked up 47 yards on the play. Newton took a hit as he was going out of bounds inside the 5-yard line, and it was then that the 6'5", 245-pound quarterback plowed into a referee (as a result of the hit).

Down goes the ref.

The flag on the play was against the defense for unnecessary roughness, so yardage was tacked on to the end of the run. Newton threw a touchdown pass to Ted Ginn Jr. a few plays later to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
