Brady Reaches 4,000 Passing Yards for 5th Consecutive Season

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 16, 2015

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady finished Sunday's 27-6 win over the Houston Texans with 4,138 passing yards thus far in 2015, making him the only quarterback to record 4,000 or more yards in each of the last five seasons, per Sportsnet Stats on Twitter.

To be fair, the following statement probably won't be true for much longer, as New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is only 206 yards away from recording his 10th straight 4,000-yard season, with his nine such consecutive seasons already good for an all-time NFL record.

Of course, Brees' lofty yardage totals have partially been the result of necessity, with his Saints often boasting one of the lesser defenses in the league.

Brady has certainly had his share of prolific statistical seasons—this one included—but he also played for quite a few teams that were often able to rely on defense and a strong running game.

The last time Brady fell shy of 4,000 yards was in 2010, when he finished with 3,900 yards and a 36-to-four touchdown-to-interception ratio for a team that won 14 regular-season games.

He was still well on his way to reaching 4,000 yards that season, but the Patriots won in blowout fashion in their final two games, erasing any need for Brady to accumulate further statistics.

He could be active to the very end this time around, as the Patriots are in a tough fight with the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals to earn the top seed in the AFC.

Unless the Patriots wrap things up by Week 17, Brady could enter his final game of the season (against the Miami Dolphins) with a shot to reach 5,000 passing yards for the second time in his career, and first since 2011.
