Blackhawks' Kane Loses Longest Points Streak Since 1992-93 at 26 Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesDec 16, 2015

Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane saw his points streak end at 26 games in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, giving him the longest single-season streak since Mats Sundin recorded a point in 30 consecutive games for the Quebec Nordiques during the 1992-93 campaign, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Nordiques, of course, would move to Colorado and adopt the "Avalanche" nickname just three seasons later, at which point Sundin had moved on to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Neither Sundin nor Kane came close to Wayne Gretzky's record of 51 consecutive appearances with a point, but the NHL has changed quite a bit since The Great One accomplished that feat to begin the 1983-84 season.

Kane's streak is the longest among active players, just barely topping the 25-game streak that Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby put together during the 2010-11 season, per NHL.com.

Kane easily broke the record for the longest streak by an American, cruising past the old mark of 18 games that was set by Eddie Olczyk (1989-90) and then matched by Phil Kessel (2008-09).

The 27-year-old winger finished his historic run with 16 goals and 24 assists (40 total points) in the 26 games, with his Blackhawks posting a 15-7-4 record over that stretch.

The team is now 0-3 when Kane hasn't scored a point this season, having been outscored 10-1 in those games.
