Latest on Verrett's Practice Status
Friday, Jan. 1
The Chargers listed Verrett as a limited participant in Friday's practice after he was held out of practice the previous two days.
Verrett Leaves Void in Chargers Secondary
Verrett (5'10", 188 lbs) was a 2014 first-round pick and has proved capable of playing in the slot and mixing it up effectively with bigger receivers on the outside. After playing only six games as a rookie, though, he needed to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn right-shoulder labrum.
The 24-year-old has stayed far more durable in his second year and has emerged as a rising star in an otherwise lost, dismal 2015 campaign for the Chargers. In Week 14, Verrett ended Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith's streak of 312 pass attempts without an interception.
Because of the versatility Verrett boasts as a cornerback, he'll be impossible to replace. It's up to former first-round pick Patrick Robinson to emulate Verrett's impact in a solid San Diego secondary.
