Robert Nkemdiche Releases Statement on Marijuana Charges, Hotel Incident
Ole Miss star and potential top 2016 NFL draft pick Robert Nkemdiche apologized Tuesday for his arrest this weekend on a marijuana possession charge in Atlanta.
Chase Parham of Rivals.com passed along a statement from Nkemdiche on Twitter:
Fox 5 in Atlanta initially reported Nkemdiche's bizarre episode, in which he fell from a hotel window. The report the defensive lineman referred to in his statement came from FoxSports.com's Clay Travis, who reported multiple sources said Nkemdiche's fall stemmed from the use of synthetic marijuana.
David Ching of ESPN.com reported Monday the Atlanta Police Department found seven rolled marijuana cigarettes in the hotel room Nkemdiche fell from.
Nkemdiche will likely opt out of his final year of college eligibility, and he figures to be a high first-round draft pick in the pros. But a suspension for what could be his final college game in the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma State may be forthcoming.
Rebels head coach Hugh Freeze has a difficult decision to make, as Nkemdiche has been instrumental to Ole Miss' recent resurgence in the SEC.
Also, Nkemdiche's NFL draft stock may slip despite his seemingly sincere words of remorse.
