NXT and WWE Universe provided some of the highlights:
The crowd was extremely vocal during the match, even singing at one point as NXT pointed out:
Dash and Dawson shocked many within the wrestling world when they beat The Vaudevillains to win the tag titles a couple months ago. It was a quick ascent to the top as they were previously utilized largely as enhancement talent.
The southern brawlers have certainly established themselves as one of the premier tag teams in NXT, and they have done so with an old-school flair that reminds many of past great teams such as the Brain Busters or Minnesota Wrecking Crew.
There is no question that Dash and Dawson have brought an aggressiveness familiar to those teams, and that was first apparent when they set their sights on Enzo and Big Cass.
Dash and Dawson targeted Cassady's leg in a sneak attack, which put him on the shelf for a few weeks. That stunt angered the challengers, though, and heightened their resolve to win the titles, according to WWE NXT on Twitter:
While Enzo and Cass displayed a serious persona that was a significant departure from how they are usually presented, Dash and Dawson remained undeterred.
That was clear on social media as Dawson continued to doubt Enzo and Cass' ability to get the job done in the ring:
Dawson's taunting only served to add even more heat to what was already an intense feud to begin with. That was blatantly obvious throughout Wednesday's match as both teams were extremely physical from bell to bell.
That made for an excellent bout, which has become commonplace in NXT as of late since its tag team division is arguably better now than ever before.
All four Superstars involved in the title match at NXT TakeOver: London pulled their weight and contributed to the rising status of tag team wrestling in WWE, but in the end, it was Dash and Dawson who enjoyed the spoils.
While there was certainly disappointment among the London fans that Enzo and Big Cass fell short of their ultimate goal once again, it may not be the end of their pursuit quite yet.
At the same time, teams like Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, the Hype Bros, Blake and Murphy and The Vaudevillains are all waiting in line as well.
There is no shortage of competition in the NXT tag team ranks right now, and Wednesday's match was a great example of how the bar continues to get raised.
