Robert Nkemdiche Charged with Marijuana Possession: Latest Comments and Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldDec 14, 2015

Ole Miss star defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche was charged with marijuana possession Monday.

ESPN.com's David Ching reported the news, citing the Atlanta Police Department as the source of information, and Fox 5 Atlanta provided his mug shot:

Nkemdiche fell 15 feet out of a window at an Atlanta hotel Saturday, as reported by Daniel Paulling of the Clarion-LedgerChing added the Atlanta PD found seven rolled marijuana cigarettes in the hotel room at which Nkemdiche was staying.

TMZ Sports reported details from the 911 call, in which the woman who reported the incident said Nkemdiche "didn't seem coherent, he seemed like he was delirious."

The Rebels standout figures to be a top pick in the 2016 NFL draft but could see his stock drop due to his recent off-field issues.

This misstep is especially discouraging due to a picture that began circulating last October of Nkemdiche appearing to smoke out of a bong.

CBSSports.com draft expert Rob Rang recently referenced Nkemdiche's "off-beat" personality and suggested his hotel fall won't help the perception NFL teams have of him. Also cited was a report by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Bob McGinn, who logged a scout's testimony in that vein.

"He's really athletic and he's got strength," the scout said of Nkemdiche. "He's really a different kid. He may scare some people. He's strange strange."

Although he is a junior, the 21-year-old figures to forgo his final year of eligibility in Oxford and make the NFL leap. He hasn't quite lived up to the hype as a highly touted recruit, but he has the physical tools and size to play on Sundays.

Some NFL team is bound to take a flier on Nkemdiche even with this marijuana possession charge. It would take a disaster of sorts to see him fall out of the first round.

The interview process at the NFL Scouting Combine and official team visits may well be enough to keep Nkemdiche among the first names called on draft night.
