Boone Placed on Injured Reserve

Saturday, Dec. 26

The 49ers promoted running back Jarryd Hayne to the active roster and placed Boone on the IR, per Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group.

Boone Avoids Surgery Despite Tear

Monday, Dec. 14

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reported that while Boone will not need to go under the knife, he will miss the remainder of the campaign.

Boone's Absence Will Further Weaken 49ers' Rushing Attack

With Boone out, rookie guard and sixth-round pick Ian Silberman has a chance to replace him in the starting lineup. Silberman was listed as inactive on Sunday, but that could change come next week.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reported that Marcus Martin filled in for the injured Boone during Sunday's game. Daniel Kilgore moved to center, and Boone's absence proved to be crucial for the 49ers.

Cleveland outgained San Francisco 230-71 on the ground, with Isaiah Crowell rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' 24-10 win.

The 49ers' rushing attack has been dormant thanks to Carlos Hyde dealing with foot troubles and officially being placed on injured reserve on Saturday. With Boone out for an extended period of time, it's going to prove even more difficult for the 49ers to run the football, and they will have to rely on Gabbert throwing the football more often.

Boone has only missed two starts since 2012, showing how reliable he's been for a 49ers team that has needed as much help as possible on the offensive side of the ball.

While Boone's injury won't hurt the overall complexion of San Francisco's season, getting quarterback Blaine Gabbert enough time to throw the football is beneficial to the 49ers ending this season on a high note.
