Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Players, Rumours Linked to Red Devils

Rob BlanchetteDec 11, 2015

Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj has admitted he doesn't know if he will return to the Red Devils once his loan with Borussia Dortmund expires, as he continues not playing in the Bundesliga.

Max Miller of Metro quoted the youngster speaking about his future, and when quizzed if he will return to Old Trafford, he replied: "I don’t know. I wanted to join somewhere I could play and there were a few things behind that were a problem, but I’m happy here. I just need more games to play and then I’ll be fine."

The Belgian international was handed Ryan Giggs' No. 11 shirt in the summer, as many saw Januzaj as the legendary Welshman's heir apparent.

However, the 20-year-old failed to convince manager Louis van Gaal of his immediate qualities, and he was shipped out on loan to the Westfalenstadion to gain experience.

The attacking midfielder has failed to make a single BVB starting XI in the Bundesliga this year, only coming on as a substitute in six matches, according to WhoScored.com.

Much was expected from Januzaj at Dortmund, and he was handed the club's No. 9 shirt on his arrival, but it appears he has issues in convincing the managerial staff he is ready to play every week once again.

Here is a video of the player's best moments during his short spell in Germany:

Stefan Buczko of ESPN FC recently gave a damning verdict of the attacker after he started for Dortmund in the Europa League, scoring Januzaj's performance as a 2/10. Buczko concluded:

"

Showing one glimpse of his potential per game isn't enough for Januzaj to leave a mark in Dortmund. Thus far his move away from Manchester can be summed up as a bad decision.

He rarely gets playing time—and if he does, he does not deliver anything of note and is unreliable. For what's it worth, Januzaj has probably declined since arriving at BVB.

Reports suggest LvG will attempt to strengthen his defence in the January transfer window with a move for defender Nelson Monte.

Portuguese daily A Bola (h/t Will Giles of Metro) said the Dutchman will turn to the Rio Ave rising star and bring him to Old Trafford to reinforce the squad after an injury crisis hit the Theatre of Dreams.

Monte's versatility will appeal to the tinkering coach, who has switched his defence from a back four to three central defenders in recent games.

The 20-year-old defender has the ability to play as a centre-back or right-back, and he would offer competition to Matteo Darmian, whose form has crashed after a promising start.

United will be stretched over the winter period as the injury's mount and form wavers. The Old Trafford faithful are starting to lose patience with LvG and his tactics, and the team need to move up the gears if they are to remain in the title picture.

However, the north-west giants are currently in touch with the top sides in the Premier League, and Van Gaal's objective will be to sustain results at home, while supplementing success in the Europa League.

If the Dutchman does not bring in new recruits in January, the bubble could quickly burst for United, as the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur make a dash for the final Champions League qualification spots.
