Smith Struggling to Meet Expectations with 49ers
Smith caught the game-winning 71-yard touchdown in Week 13's overtime victory over the Chicago Bears on a deep pass from Blaine Gabbert. The 26-year-old has had an otherwise frustrating first year in San Francisco as the 49ers have struggled in their transition to the post-Jim Harbaugh era under head coach Jim Tomsula.
At least there aren't any playoff hopes at stake in the matchup against Cleveland at FirstEnergy Stadium . His absence would have largely limited Gabbert, but at least the Browns have a porous defense that ranks 31st in points allowed and 29th in total yards conceded per contest.
