WWE TLC 2015: Best Moments from Buildup to PPV Event

Graham GSM MatthewsDec 11, 2015

After Survivor Series fell flat, the build to WWE TLC 2015 has been lousy, to say the least. The card has potential to exceed expectations, but WWE programming as of late hasn't given fans a reason to think it will.

The main storyline heading into the event has seen Roman Reigns chase Sheamus' WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The two will collide in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match where the first man to gain possession of the prestigious prize hanging high above the ring will walk away the winner.

In other action, The Wyatt Family will battle The Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno in an Elimination Table match, while Dean Ambrose contends for the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Kevin Owens.

Although WWE has failed to make TLC feel special in any major way, several matches could well steal the show. As the final pay-per-view before the Road to WrestleMania begins, the pressure is on for WWE to book accordingly and deliver the goods in Boston.

Before WWE's version of the Demolition Derby kicks off Sunday night, we will take a look back at the most memorable moments that have occurred on the rocky road to TLC.

Paige and Charlotte Go to War: Raw, Nov. 23, 2015

1 of 5

Few feuds were more heated going into Survivor Series than Charlotte vs. Paige. They had the entire wrestling world talking with their controversial contract signing on the Nov. 16 edition of Raw, but since then, the program has cooled off significantly.

Despite that, they contested a competent matchup at Survivor Series, which Charlotte won. Paige demanded a rematch after claiming the Flair family scion cheated to win, and Charlotte eventually accepted the challenge.

Once again, the former Team PCB members took each other to their respective limits, but the bout ended in a disappointing double count-out when both women failed to beat the 10-count.

Their war was far from over, however, as Paige continued to lay a beating on the Divas champion. After tossing her into the steel steps at ringside, she proceeded to lock her in the grueling PTO on top of the commentators' table.

Granted, it didn't do any more damage than had she applied it in the middle of the ring, but it was a cool visual, nevertheless. It put Paige in the driver seat heading into TLC, and Charlotte has yet to fully recover from the vicious attack.

Dean Ambrose Punches His Ticket to TLC: SmackDown, Nov, 26, 2015

2 of 5

Before the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament was announced in early November, Dean Ambrose already had his sights set on Kevin Owens' Intercontinental Championship. They had unfinished business after their match on the Nov. 6 edition of SmackDown ended in a disqualification win for Owens.

At Survivor Series, Ambrose evened the odds when he defeated the Canada native to advance to the finals of the tourney. They rekindled their rivalry the next night on Raw where they clashed in tag team action, with The Lunatic Fringe's team securing the victory.

Ambrose's title shot wouldn't come easy, though, as he first had to overcome Dolph Ziggler and Tyler Breeze in a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match on the Thanksgiving SmackDown. All three Superstars had their own reasons for wanting to go for the gold, but it was evident only one man could come out on top.

Each of them had the match won on several occasions, only to be thwarted by one of their opponents. It wasn't until Ambrose nailed Breeze with the Dirty Deeds that he secured his shot at the prestigious prize at TLC.

Afterward, he and Owens exchanged looks outside the ring, setting the stage for what is sure to be a bout for the ages Sunday.

The Dudley Boyz Take the Wyatt Family to the Extreme: Raw, Nov. 30, 2015

3 of 5

Coming off the humiliating loss to The Undertaker and Kane at Survivor Series, The Wyatt Family was in destruction mode the next night on Raw. The Wyatts unleashed all their pent-up frustration on The Dudley Boyz, whom they defeated in decisive fashion.

Even after they beat the bearded clan by disqualification on SmackDown, The Dudley Boyz were put through tables. To retaliate, the former 23-time tag team champions were well aware they weren't going to be able to overcome the odds alone.

On the Nov. 30 edition of Raw, The Dudley Boyz called out The Wyatt Family in the middle of the ring. But before they could attack, they were joined by a returning Tommy Dreamer, who was treated to a major reaction in Philadelphia.

It marked the first time the ECW original had appeared on Raw since December 2012 when he came back at the Slammy Awards, which were also held in the City of Brotherly Love. His return injected a much-needed dose of unpredictability into the product at a time where surprises are non-existent on Raw.

Looking better than ever before, Dreamer was spoiling for a fight with the fearsome faction. They fell short of victory in the six-man tag team match that followed, but the seasoned veterans did get a measure of revenge when Bubba Ray Dudley pushed Bray Wyatt through a table at ringside.

Sheamus Forms the League of Nations: Raw, Nov. 30, 2015

4 of 5

The feud between Roman Reigns and Sheamus has been devoid of any excitement since it started at Survivor Series. WWE took the most predictable path possible by having Sheamus cash in Money in the Bank, and now the company is paying the price in the form of record-low Raw ratings.

Simply put, Sheamus and Reigns don't have the strongest of chemistry, either in the ring or on the mic. They need other components to make them engaging, and those pieces were put into place on the Nov. 30 edition of Raw.

Reigns was afforded the opportunity to contend for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship two weeks ahead of TLC, but the catch was that he had to beat Sheamus in less than five minutes, 15 seconds. He was closing in on victory when Rusev attacked The Big Dog at ringside, which caused the match to be thrown out.

It was revealed shortly thereafter that Sheamus had found a new faction, the League of Nations. The group consists of him, Rusev, King Barrett and the United States champion, Alberto Del Rio.

Later that night, they asserted their dominance over the babyfaces by beating Reigns, Dean Ambrose and The Usos in a 7-on-3 Handicap match alongside The New Day. The League of Nations has a ways to go before it can be considered a legitimate threat, but the team's presence has made the title match at TLC all the more interesting.

The Lucha Dragons Upset the New Day: Raw, Dec. 7, 2015

5 of 5

Since capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam, The New Day have been ruling the tag team division with an iron fist. They've turned back challenges from The Dudley Boyz and The Prime Time Players and have shown no signs of slowing down.

However, they were greeted with not one but two new tandems willing to step up and contend for the championship shortly after Survivor Series: The Usos and The Lucha Dragons.

They denied their chance to go after the gold at first, but after getting involved in a No. 1 Contender's match on the Nov. 30 Raw, it was made a Triple Threat Ladder match at TLC.

Fans had a small sneak peak of what to expect Sunday in the form of a match between The New Day and The Lucha Dragons on the Dec. 7 Raw. The two teams contested a fun little matchup that was only made more enjoyable thanks to The Usos' presence on commentary.

The New Day were on the verge of victory when they got caught up with the two-time WWE tag team champions at ringside, which forced them to lose their focus and ultimately cost them the match. It resulted in a career-making win for The Lucha Dragons, but whether they can win Sunday when it matters the most remains to be seen.
