Chelsea Transfer News: Jonathan Calleri Move Imminent, Latest Blues Rumours

Jonathan Calleri's chances of a move to Chelsea appear to have been boosted after he suggested he'll soon leave Boca Juniors, while Patrick Bamford could be sacrificed to make room for the young striker.

Metro's Will Giles provided a translation of Calleri's recent tweet, where he proclaimed, "Thank you for everything and goodbye" after being linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs (tweet in Spanish):

The post doesn't leave much to interpretation, and after leading Boca Juniors to the 2015 Argentine Primera Division crown, it seems Calleri is finally poised to depart his native land for European shores.

Boca president Daniel Angelici recently intensified speculation that the striker will leave Buenos Aires by admitting several Serie A outfits will challenge Chelsea for the attacker's services, per Gianluca Di Marzio translator David Amoyal:

The Blues will be hard-pressed to acquire one of Argentina's biggest prospects considering their recent demise, and luring top talents to Stamford Bridge in January is sure to be a more difficult task than usual.

Jose Mourinho's side sit 14th in the Premier League and are just two points off the relegation zone, meaning targets will most likely prove much harder to lure come the winter transfer window.

One of Mourinho's old clubs, Inter, will provide major competition for Calleri, according to Calcio Mercato's Fabrizio Romano, and the Nerazzurri are willing to offer around €13 million (£9.5 million) for his talents:

Romano also claims Calleri is reluctant to join Chelsea due to their poor record when it comes to offering young players a chance at first-team football.

Calleri scored 10 goals in 26 league matches this past season, boasting an overall record of 21 goals in 53 games across all campaigns, winning the Primera Division and Copa Argentina titles.

The sunnier weather on offer in Italy may be seen as more appealing to the South American sensation, where former Juventus striker and Boca team-mate Carlos Tevez once reigned.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is keen to bring out-of-favour Chelsea striker Bamford back to Teesside in January following reports he'll trigger a release clause in his Crystal Palace contract.

Bamford is yet to make a Premier League start during his season-long loan at Selhurst Park, and Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo reported he'll exit that deal early to rejoin Boro on loan.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough 2014-15 campaign on loan at the Riverside, where he netted 19 goals in 43 games across all competitions.

Wilson stated that Bamford is "growing increasingly resigned to his fate under Alan Pardew," and one of Chelsea's brightest youngsters could again make the move down to the Championship.
