Cary Williams Reportedly Signs with Washington Redskins

Free-agent cornerback Cary Williams was cut by the Seattle Seahawks after signing a three-year, $18 million deal with the reigning NFC champions over the offseason, but he has reportedly landed with the Washington Redskins for their postseason run.

Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing a source, reported Williams agreed to terms with the Redskins, calling it "instant help for the playoffs."

Seattle brought Williams aboard after Byron Maxwell bolted for the Philadelphia Eagles, but the 30-year-old didn't perform up to expectations.     

According to ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia, Williams was benched during Seattle's Week 11 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers after underwhelming in the team's first 10 games. He was subsequently inactive for Seattle's next two contests against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings. 

However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll had kind words for the veteran upon his release. 

"He was a real pro," Carroll said, per Kapadia. "He worked hard in practice and all that. His attitude was excellent."

With Washington looking for a stopgap solution to get it through the postseason, it could have done worse than a physical press corner like Williams.
