WWE NXT: Full Preview, Match Card and More for December 9

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 8, 2015

Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for this week's episode of WWE NXT, where we take a spoiler-free look at what's in store for the developmental brand's upcoming episode.

NXT TakeOver: London takes place December 16, which means this is the last show before the big event. If there are plans to add anything to the card, Wednesday is the last chance management has to set things up.

But that's next week. For now, let's take a look at what's in store on this week's episode of NXT.

The Men

Six bouts are booked for Wednesday's show, so it's a little surprising to find out only one of them is a singles match featuring the men of the developmental system.

Bull Dempsey is in action this week against Riddick Moss, who was originally going by the name Mike Rallis. Moss has the right look and size to be something special, but he is still being used as an enhancement talent for now.

That seems to be how things go for people who haven't built up a huge reputation on the indy circuit. Even Baron Corbin was putting people over before he was taken off TV and repackaged as an unstoppable monster.

With that being said, the outcome of this match is pretty obvious. Dempsey is someone who has struggled to find his footing for quite some time, but this may be the start of a renewed push for the big man.

Dempsey has a unique look for someone his size. He isn't tall or muscular, but he is popular with the NXT Universe. Under the right circumstances, he could be a good asset for the company.

The Women

Two matches featuring the women of NXT will take place this week. The first will see Deonna Purrazzo battle Asuka in what is sure to be a one-sided bout.

Purrazzo made her debut on the November 11 episode against Nia Jax in a losing effort. She is still new to the scene despite having appeared in TNA and a few indy promotions in 2014.

Asuka is set to collide with Emma at TakeOver: London, so this will be a warm-up match for her. If she does anything but dominate Purrazzo, it will be a big surprise.

With the way things have been going, it would be an even bigger surprise if Emma and Dana Brooke didn't make some kind of appearance. These two have been pursuing Asuka ever since she decisively beat Brooke at TakeOver: Respect.

If there ends up being any physical contact between Emma, Brooke and Asuka, the person who will win the match in London will probably take a beating to make the other person look strong.

The other women's match set for Wednesday has Bayley taking on Peyton Royce. We've seen Royce popping up more and more over the past few months, so management clearly sees value in her.

Unfortunately, she's still little more than a jobber at this point. Facing the women's champion will definitely give him more exposure, even if she loses.

Bayley has been in a feud with Eva Marie and Nia Jax recently, and as of this writing, we still don't know woh will challenge for the title at TakeOver.

If it's Eva Marie, Bayley will likely retain. If it ends up being Jax, we may see a new champion crowned in London. WWE wants to position her as a powerhouse heel, and giving her a title reign early in her run is a great way to do that.

Defeating everyone's favorite hugger will give either woman a lot of heat, but Eva Marie is already nuclear in the eyes of the fans, which means Jax is the better candidate.

The Tag Teams

Three tag team matches will take place this week, but one of them will combine two feuds going on in the singles division.

Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady will be in action against newcomers Corey Hollis and John Skyler. This is yet another match where the outcome seems like a forgone conclusion.

Amore and Cassady are one of the most popular acts in NXT, but they haven't been as successful in recent months as many would like.

However, that could all change next week when they challenge for the NXT Tag Team Championships. Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson haven't held the titles that long, but not everyone gets a long reign with the gold.

Amore and Big Cass, along with Carmella, will be a welcome addition to the main roster when they are eventually called up, but it might be a good idea to give them a test run with the titles before heading to the big leagues.

The second tag bout will feature The Hype Bros battling Team BAMF. This is an interesting combo because whoever wins this match may end up being the next challengers for the tag belts.

Mojo Rawley has found new life as the partner of Zack Ryder. He was struggling as a singles star, but he and Ryder seem to complement each other well.

Then again, Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy are looking to get the titles they lost a few months ago back around their waists, so it's anyone's guess as to who will win this one.

The important thing is that this should be a fun, competitive match featuring three NXT standouts and a WWE veteran doing what they do best.

The main event of the evening is going to be a doozie. NXT champion Finn Balor will be teaming with Apollo Crews to take on former rivals Corbin and Samoa Joe.

Joe will be challenging Balor for the title next week, while Corbin and Crews will be in a grudge match. Those contests should be great, and the tag bout will give us a taste of what we can expect at TakeOver.

Whichever team picks up the win will gain some momentum before they go to London. These are four completely different Superstars, which usually makes for an interesting combination.

With six matches on the card, it gives everyone less time to perform, but Corbin, Joe, Balor and Crews are capable of doing a lot with anything they are given, so we should be in for a fantastic main event.

TakeOver: London will be NXT's first time running one of these specials overseas, but they are going to a place where WWE fans are like rabid wolves. They will be welcomed with open arms and greeted with more chants than they can count. It's going to be great.

What are you looking forward to on this week's episode of NXT?
