NFL Picks Week 14: Game-by-Game Advice for Current Vegas Spreads

Steve SilvermanDec 8, 2015

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking forward to their Week 14 game at Cincinnati all year.

The Steelers lost a Week 8 home game to the Bengals, but this is not about revenge or retribution. It may not even have anything to do with trying to get back into the race for the AFC North title.

The Steelers simply love playing in Cincinnati. They have beaten the Bengals in 12 of their last 14 trips to the Queen City, and after scoring 45 points Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts, the Steelers are as confident as they have been all season.

Head coach Mike Tomlin knows just how consistent the Bengals have been all season, but he cares little about his opponents. Tomlin only cares about how his team is playing, and he will have the Steelers come out firing in this game.

Expect Ben Roethlisberger to stretch the Cincinnati defense with wide receivers Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant and Markus Wheaton. Tomlin will try to hit the gas early, and don't be surprised if he attempts to go for two after an early touchdown.

The Steelers want the Bengals to react to them, and not the other way around.

The Bengals certainly have the tools to score with the Steelers, but you have to wonder if they're going to have the same emotional edge. The Bengals are playing for home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs, while the Steelers are trying to climb into a playoff position. Currently, they are seventh behind the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets even though they all have 7-5 records.

The Steelers are three-point underdogs, according to Odds Shark. But this day will belong to Big Ben and the Steelers' explosive passing game.

Broncos not interested in lighting up the scoreboard

Gary Kubiak has his eyes on the big prize. As head coach of the Denver Broncos, he knows its simply about stacking wins at this point in the season.

The Broncos moved into the overall No. 1 position in the AFC when they beat the San Diego Chargers 17-3 in Week 13 while the New England Patriots inexplicably lost at home to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Denver had no interest in asking quarterback Brock Osweiler to throw the ball all over the lot and put 45 points on the board. Kubiak wants his quarterback to take what the defense gives him, hand the ball off to his running backs and grind out victories.

The mission against the Raiders this week is the same one the Broncos had last week. Hold onto the football, get the lead and drain the clock.

The total in the Oakland-Denver game is 43.5 points. The only way these two teams are going to get close to that number is if Oakland quarterback Derek Carr starts throwing interceptions left and right. That will lead to a short field, and the Broncos can easily take advantage of those chances.

Carr is a good quarterback, and we expect him to avoid interceptions, especially after throwing three in Week 13 against Kansas City.

Both teams will play conservative football, and the under will come through.

Jets could struggle as favorites against Titans

After beating the Dolphins and Giants in back-to-back weeks to move into the No. 2 wild-card position in the AFC playoffs, the New York Jets have what appears to be an easy game against the 3-9 Tennessee Titans.

However, anyone who has followed the Jets throughout their history knows there is no such thing as an easy game at this time of the year—particularly when the Jets are playing against a team they appear to have a significant advantage over.

New coach Todd Bowles has nothing to do with the missed opportunities the Jets have inflicted upon themselves and their fans in years past. His job is to keep his team focused on beating the Titans.

The oddsmakers have made the Jets 7.5-point favorites, but the Titans are coming off a rare win in which their offense played well. Rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran for a spectacular 87-yard TD, as the Titans recorded a 42-39 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Titans may not win this game, but we like them to make life miserable for the Jets and stay within the spread.
