Muller has been the subject of much transfer speculation in recent months, with both Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly interested in signing him, per Darren Lewis of the Mirror.

His new deal will effectively put the matter to bed, as Muller has committed himself to the Bundesliga club.

The Bayern hierarchy will undoubtedly be delighted to have tied Muller down for a further six years, and the contract should ward off potential suitors in the upcoming January transfer window.

Journalist Stefan Bienkowski praised the move by the Bavarian club in tying down the four players, but questioned where Alonso fits into the team's plans next term:

Pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft highlighted Muller's contract extension but noted the deal will not stop transfer speculation about the German World Cup winner:

With the likes of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Philipp Lahm now reaching the ends of their careers, Muller's role in the Bayern side is only set to become even more important as one of the senior players.

Muller has been at Bayern for his entire career, and it is unsurprising that he has committed to remain at the club.

The German giants remain one of Europe's biggest and best sides, and Muller's continued presence will help to ensure that remains the case for years to come.

The retention of Boatang and Martinez will keep Bayern's core secure in the seasons ahead, as both can perform several different defensive functions for Der FCB.
