Cam Newton Comments on Talk of Panthers Going Undefeated

Joe PantornoDec 1, 2015

There's a good chance that at the beginning of the 2015 football season, not many people were predicting the Carolina Panthers would be undefeated going into Week 13. But after the New England Patriots' loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, the Panthers are the last unbeaten side in the league at 11-0.

That means nothing to Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, as he told the media on Tuesday, per the Associated Press' Steve Reed:

Caring or not, Newton still doesn't want to hear much about his team's success:

With five games to go, Carolina's schedule is heavy with divisional games that include two against the Atlanta Falcons and one apiece with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Their only out-of-division game will be coming in Week 15 against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The combined records of the Panthers' remaining opponents this season is 20-24, not exactly the toughest schedule. It might be tougher to dodge the media than churn out wins at this point for Newton.

Playing the most popular sport in the nation, Newton is going to have more attention heaped upon him the more the Panthers win. That's just the way things are. America loves a winner, and so does the media.

And Newton has been at the center of the media's attention for some time now, whether it comes from his dancing or riding a hoverboard through the streets of Auburn, Alabama. It's just something he will have to get used to moving forward as he helps develop the Panthers into one of the league's most elite teams.
