Ohio State WR Michael Thomas Questions Alabama's Schedule

Although the Southeastern Conference has been viewed as the best league in college football for years now, the current Associated Press Top 25 suggests the conference isn't as strong as it has been in recent seasons.

And you better believe Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Michael Thomas has noticed.

Thomas and the Buckeyes were able to sneak into the inaugural College Football Playoff last year and wound up winning the national championship. Now, after a last-second loss to Michigan State two weeks ago, one-loss Ohio State needs some help to get a chance to defend its title.

Knowing his team is on the outside looking in, Thomas appears to believe the Buckeyes have a better resume than the one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide.

His argument? Alabama's strength of schedule is not that great, with the Crimson Tide beating only one ranked team this season.

For all the criticism the Big Ten has taken in recent seasons, it's hard to say the conference is weak at this point. In the current AP poll, the Big Ten owns spots Nos. 4, 5 and 6, as well as three other spots in the Top 25. No conference has more teams ranked than the Big Ten's six.

Meanwhile, the SEC has four teams ranked, including just one in the Top 15. And then there is the fact that Ohio State ran over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl last season, 42-35.

Thomas certainly isn't implying that the Buckeyes are playing ranked teams every week. All he is doing is pointing out to the selection committee that he believes Alabama has an overrated schedule. Does the junior wideout have a case? Perhaps.

Given the situation, haters will view Thomas' tweet as coming from a player who is just salty his team is not in the Top Four. The Buckeyes lost their hold on a playoff spot when they fell at home to the Spartans—a potential playoff team—two weeks ago, and now that they will not be playing in the Big Ten Championship Game, they appear to need a lot of help to get consideration from the selection committee.

Ohio State is hoping some type of combination of the Florida Gators, North Carolina Tar Heels and USC Trojans can help them out this weekend. If the Buckeyes don't get that help, Thomas may not be done tweeting.
