Feleipe Franks to Florida: Gators Land 4-Star QB Prospect

Danny WebsterNov 29, 2015

Feleipe Franks, a 4-star quarterback from Crawfordville, Florida, announced on Twitter that he will stay in the state and play for the Florida Gators.

The Class of 2016 quarterback is the ninth-best prospect in the Sunshine State, according to 247Sports, and is the fifth-best quarterback prospect in the nation.

Franks originally committed to Les Miles and the LSU Tigers back in June 2014, but he decommitted last week, with a possible reason being the uncertain future of Miles as the program's head coach. Franks made a statement on Twitter on Nov. 23 about his decommitment from LSU:

While Miles looked to be on the way out at LSU, Miles has since been retained as head coach, per ESPN.com, but Franks still moved on to the Gators.

At 6'5", 220 pounds, Franks brings size and a much-needed arm to a Florida team that will only have one quarterback on scholarship next season. Head coach Jim McElwain will have his Gators playing for the SEC championship this year, which makes the Franks addition a major get for the program, per Bob Redman of Scout.com.

"Quarterback is a huge need for Florida and really only one scholarship quarterback is available to play at the moment for the SEC championship-bound Gators," he wrote. "Franks has been at the top of the lost [sic] for a while with the Gator staff."

Franks is a pro-style quarterback and threw for a combined 46 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions in 2013 and 2014, according to 247Sports.
