Philip Rivers Passes Joe Montana on NFL's All-Time Touchdown Pass List

Joseph ZuckerNov 29, 2015

Philip Rivers entered rarefied air Sunday after his third touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The San Diego Chargers quarterback picked up the 274th passing TD of his career, moving him past Joe Montana for 12th on the all-time list, per the Chargers.

As Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune noted, that was one of two major career milestones for Rivers:

Rivers shouldn't need long to gain sole possession of 11th for most passing TDs. Vinny Testaverde threw 275 touchdowns over his 21-year career, and next in line is Eli Manning, who has 280 touchdowns and counting.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are among those considered to be the best QBs among active players. While Rivers can't match the on-field success of that quartet, he warrants mention in the discussion—a case strengthened by Sunday's achievement.
