Neymar Comments on Barcelona Contract Negotiations

Tom SunderlandNov 28, 2015

Barcelona fans can rest easy in the knowledge that Neymar fully intends to extend his stay at the Camp Nou after opening up on his intention to pen new terms in Catalonia.

The Brazil superstar has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current Barca deal, but he is already hopeful of a new contract that will tie him to the Blaugrana in the long term, per Goal's Joe Wright: "I've still got years on my contract. My father has already spoken about my future. We're talking about a renewal because my intention is to do so."

Neymar has enjoyed a whirlwind start to life in Europe since moving to Barcelona from Santos in 2013, and last season's treble marked the greatest achievement of his career to date.

Alongside fellow Ballon d'Or contenders Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, the 23-year-old has formed one of the most potent attacking lineups in the world, arguably in history, and it's no shock to hear he wishes for that success to live on.

Neymar and Suarez have been particularly promising this season, and the pair managed to fill the scoring void for Luis Enrique's side during Messi's recent injury layoff, suggesting he can be the Camp Nou's main man.

The secret to the trio's rousing success also appears to be a sympathetic lack of selfish behaviour between them as Neymar went on to describe how well they've gelled, according to Squawka:

Wright's report mentioned Neymar's ongoing tax fraud case as affecting his situation at present, with more than £31 million of assets frozen following allegations of evading £10.5 million of taxes in his native Brazil between 2011 and 2013.

It's suggested those tax woes could result in an early departure from Barca should they go unresolved, but both the player and the club appear to be doing their all to ensure his triumphant tenure is prolonged.
