Barcelona hosted Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday afternoon, looking to extend their lead atop the Primera Division table before rivals Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid next play.

The hosts were confident going into the match following the 6-1 thrashing of Roma at the same venue in midweek and included a fit-again Lionel Messi, making his 600th career appearance, in the starting lineup.

Andres Iniesta nearly gave Luis Enrique's side the perfect start when his header came back off the post in the 13th minute following Luis Suarez's brilliant cross.

Suarez was soon denied by Geronimo Rulli, but the home side weren't to be frustrated for too long, Neymar stealing in to convert a Dani Alves cross after 22 minutes.

Not to be outdone, Neymar's Uruguayan strike partner doubled the advantage shortly before the interval, slamming home a second brilliant volley of the week after another cross by Alves.

It only took eight second-half minutes for Barca to put the game to bed, Jeremy Mathieu breaking free before squaring to Neymar, who tapped home his second—the home side's third.

Barcelona were unfortunate not to add a fourth late on, when Messi struck the woodwork.

But the Argentinian superstar wouldn't be denied a goal on his big day—tapping home in stoppage time to complete Barcelona's 4-0 rout.

The result sees Enrique's team move seven points clear of Atletico Madrid, who play Espanyol on Saturday evening.
