Jahlil Okafor Comments on Scuffle with Fan Outside Bar

Mike ChiariNov 27, 2015

Two days after getting involved in a fight with someone outside a Boston bar, Philadelphia 76ers rookie center Jahlil Okafor commented on the incident for the first time Friday.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Okafor regretted the situation he and teammate Christian Wood put themselves in following Wednesday's loss to the Celtics.

"It was definitely dumb on my part," Okafor said. "It's something that I am embarrassed about. [I'm] still dealing with the league and the team. But I'm not happy about it at all. But we are still going through the process of what we are going to do."

As seen in this video courtesy of TMZ, the former Duke star got physical with a civilian after engaging in a shouting match Wednesday night:

Per ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman, a source close to Okafor revealed the reasoning behind the scuffle.

"Apparently, they said: 'The 76ers suck and you guys are all losers. You'll never win a game,'" the source said. "I was around the corner when it happened. I saw him a minute after he knocked the dude out. I think the guy was just talking s--t. Saying the Sixers suck."

The 76ers also released a statement regarding the matter, according to Goodman.

"We are aware of the report and we are currently working to gather additional information. Until that time, we will have no further comment," the team said.

It was announced Friday that there are no current plans for a police investigation to take place, per ESPN.com.

Neither the Sixers nor the NBA have commented on whether they intend to levy any type of punishment against Okafor, but the already-reeling 0-16 76ers can ill afford to be without their best player.
