Daily Fantasy Football November 26: DFS Stock Up, Stock Down

Rob GoldbergNov 26, 2015

The Thursday night NFL games are usually little more than an afterthought for most daily fantasy football competitors. However, Thanksgiving Day provides a chance to win money long before the weekend gets started.

You can fill out a complete lineup for Thursday's triple-header and watch the points rack up while you eat your turkey. Of course this also creates limited options, with just six teams to choose from instead of 32. To help you out, here is the latest on sleepers to draft and top picks you might want to avoid.

Devin Funchess, WR, Carolina Panthers ($3,900)

It took a little longer for Devin Funchess to get up to speed in the offense, but the rookie is finally living up to expectations as a second-round pick. The 6'4", 225-pound receiver got his first start last week and turned that into four catches on eight targets for 64 receiving yards. He also caught his second touchdown pass in three weeks.

Most importantly, Funchess has started to impress the coaching staff, including head coach Ron Rivera:

This will likely signal more playing time going forward, especially considering there are few better options at receiver. If he can get on the same page as Cam Newton, this could lead to some big fantasy points.

Ameer Abdullah, RB, Detroit Lions ($3,300)

This has been a disappointing rookie season for Ameer Abdullah, but it seems the Detroit Lions are finally giving him a shot on offense. He finished with 44 rushing yards on 12 carries Sunday, which was twice as many attempts as anyone else on the team.

He has also done a better job of holding onto the football after dealing with fumbling problems earlier in the season.

If he gets a similar opportunity Thursday, Abdullah could be set for a big game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The run defense started the year off strong but currently allows 128.5 rushing yards per game to rank 28th in the league. This is a major risk, but the upside is good for a minimal price.

Brent Celek, TE, Philadelphia Eagles ($3,200)

Zach Ertz has been the starting tight end for the Eagles this season, but Brent Celek took advantage of his opportunity when Ertz went down with a concussion, as noted by Greg Kennedy of PHLSportsNation.com:

More importantly from a fantasy perspective, Celek has 11 catches for 213 yards over the last two games. With Ertz declared out for Thursday's game, the veteran backup has a chance to have a much bigger role within the offense.

With some of the higher-profile tight ends costing a lot more money on DraftKings, you can get a lot of value with Celek and spend big in other places.

Stock Down

Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers ($6,500)

Even with a touchdown pass in two of the last three games, Randall Cobb hasn't been a consistent enough fantasy option to justify this cost.

Only once in the last seven games has the slot receiver finished with more than 55 receiving yards, and his connection with Aaron Rodgers has been off lately. Cobb has brought in only 11 of his 31 targets over his last three games.

To make matters worse, James Jones and Davante Adams have seen increased targets over the past two weeks, which continues to limit Cobb's production.

The chance at a big game is still there, but as one of the higher-priced players of the week, the value is simply not there.

Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys ($5,800)

There is no denying the Cowboys are a better team with Tony Romo on the roster, as evident by the first win since he was in the lineup in Week 2. However, he wasn't sharp in his first game back, throwing two interceptions and compiling just an 83.5 quarterback rating.

It is tough to imagine Romo improving too much in a four-day span against one of the top defenses in football. In fact, the Panthers have allowed the lowest passer rating in the NFL to opposing quarterbacks at just 70.6, thanks mostly to 15 interceptions.

Romo will have better games as the year continues, and at this price, he will have some serious value. Unfortunately, this is not the week to trust him to have a breakout showing.

Jeremy Langford, RB, Chicago Bears ($5,300)

Although Jeremy Langford has been extremely impressive while filling in for the injured Matt Forte, the veteran is still the team's starter when he is healthy. Although Forte is listed as questionable for Week 12, he sounded like someone expecting to play, per ESPN's Jeff Dickerson:

"

I'm good enough to go. [...]

I'm excited just to get back out there. Not really a lot of fun watching the games and doing all that and not be able to help your team win, so I'm not really used to doing that. But it's going to be fun to get back out there on the field and help us out. Just looking forward to being out there.

"

Langford isn't likely going to fall back into obscurity, but after totaling just 25 rushing yards on 13 carries last game, the Bears will likely do what they can to get Forte as much work as possible. Even with potential involvement in the passing game or touchdown opportunities, there is no certainty about his role going forward.

There is a lot of upside for Langford for those in dynasty leagues. In a week-long contest, however, the price does not match the value.
