Per Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune, Long was "wearing a walking boot on his left leg after he departed practice early with what [the] team said was a calf injury."
Long Among NFL's Most Versatile Linemen
Most Bears fans and NFL draft analysts were left underwhelmed when Chicago made Long the 20th overall pick in the 2013 draft. The former Oregon star proceeded to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons while starting at guard.
The long-term goal was always to move Long to tackle at some point. That's exactly what the Bears did in 2015, and Long made his third straight Pro Bowl.
The offseason addition of Bobby Massie meant Long went back to right guard. It's a nice luxury for Chicago to know it can put Long at either position on the right side of the line and excel.
Having Long healthy will be important for the Bears as they look to build the ground game with Matt Forte gone. Jeremy Langford and Ka'Deem Carey are their best two options, and while both have shown promise, neither has the track record of Forte.
