Amendola Reportedly Unlikely to Miss Postseason
Monday, Dec. 21
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Amendola is still undergoing tests but added "the belief" is that the wideout has a "sprain that won't cause him to miss playoff time."
Amendola Has History of Knee Injuries
Amendola suffered a sprained knee in the Patriots' Week 11 win over the Buffalo Bills, but it wasn't a serious concern. The short-term nature of the injury was especially good news since slot receiver extraordinaire Julian Edelman was ruled out for the remainder of the regular season with a broken foot after going down against the New York Giants.
Amendola's production didn't ramp up until he posted seven catches for 105 yards in New England's 34-27 win over the Indianapolis Colts, but he's been quite reliable since.
All told, the speedy slot receiver has totaled 62 catches for 628 yards and three touchdowns coming into Week 15, with a couple of those coming in dramatic fashion.
“Amendola’s always making those crazy, acrobatic catches," Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said, per NESN's Ricky Doyle. "He looks like a gymnast half the time. Last year, he had that one crazy [catch] versus the Jets. You saw him a couple of times this year. He’s super athletic. He’s that freaky athletic, where he can jump, he’s super quick, and he makes those kinds of catches, which look awesome."
The Patriots' wide receiver corps has been decimated all season long, so the team knows how to cope with adversity.
