What Have We Learned?

Kirk ClermontSep 21, 2009

First thing we've learned?  Don't drink the ESPN Kool-Aid!   All week, you heard about the Vols imminent destruction.  A lot of yip yap about a weak Vol team due to their loss to UCLA.   Clearly the pinheads did not watch the Vols play.  As you know, I extolled about Tennessee's legitimacy after week 1.   They only lost to UCLA because Coach Kiffin lacks the good sense of knowing when to pull a quarterback.  At the very least, learn when to RUN THE BALL!   Kiffin STILL learned nothing as he threw the ball when he should have been running it with his beast back Montario Hardesty.

Second thing we've learned?  The Gators are for real.  They should have scored 40 points, but when the refs think you're the Oakland Raiders, calls don't go your way.  A clearly trapped ball was called an interception.  A benign bit of happiness was excessive celebration and gave the Vols a touchdown.  The Vols partied "like it's 1999" and get no call- blunting a Florida drive (maybe the refs thought they were the Patriots).  Tebow's crazy fumble just shows he can NOT have a great game and the defense will bail him out. Just watch last year's game against Oklahoma if you don't think defense is STOUT.

Third thing we've learned?  The defense is STOUT.  As long as the offense puts up at least 20 points, Florida will repeat as national champions because the defense is OUTSTANDING.  The lone weakness is their run defense.  However, when you're going up against a beast, I'm not sure it was the unit lacking.

Lastly, Tim Tebow may not be Superman, but he is certainly Shaq Diesel.  Tebow blew folks back, and even sent Eric Berry flying.  Berry was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last season.  When Tebow is accurate, he can be fearsome.  When his line protects him, he is otherworldly.   I look forward to some exciting, hard-hitting SEC battles and can't wait for the re-match against Alabama in the SEC title game.

PS  Gators- don't get a big head, otherwise, you'll get an Auburn-style ambush by a lessor opponent (aka South Carolina and Arkansas).
