Couture Does Conditioning Skate Before Saturday's Game

Saturday, Nov. 21

Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports the playmaking center took the ice during the tail end of the morning skate ahead of the Sharks' clash with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He isn't sure what the next step will be until he sees how his body reacts.

"That was the first day of skating pretty good, just doing some conditioning," Couture said. "It's cliche, but it's day-by-day. [If] it reacts well we go a step further. I couldn't tell you what the plan is for tomorrow yet."

The report also included optimism from assistant coach Steve Spott.

"It's a real positive for us," Spott said. "It's nice to see him back on skates and it's nice to see he's got his gear back on. He's taking part in meetings now with the team, and hopefully it’s sooner than later. It's definitely a nice shot of adrenaline for us."

Couture originally suffered the injury during practice last month before a game with the New Jersey Devils. He went down in the corner and had to get helped off the ice.

The Sharks are currently 11-8-0, but the league's 17th-ranked offense has certainly missed his contributions. He's scored 289 points in 382 career games, including 67 points last season.

Exactly when he'll be able to play again is still up in the air. The good news for San Jose is that he's trending in the right direction and should provide a major boost once he's fully cleared.
