Liverpool Transfer News: January Targets Eyed by Jurgen Klopp, Top Reds Rumours
Liverpool invested heavily in their attack this past summer, but it has been suggested a move for Inter's Mauro Icardi is on the cards, while Nerazzurri youngster Isaac Donkor has professed his desire to join the Reds in future.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Reds are hunting a deal to sign Icardi despite his failure to recapture the prolific form he enjoyed last season (h/t Daily Star's Marc Williams).

The Argentina international has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, but Liverpool strengthened their attack significantly over the summer by signing Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino.
However, Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported Inter have "no intention" of selling their captain, with Chelsea and Arsenal also touted as suitors for the €35 million (£24.5 million) attacker (via Football Italia).
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has some need to add to his ranks following Daniel Sturridge's ongoing fitness woes and Ings being ruled out for the 2015-16 campaign with a serious knee injury.
Icardi has just three goals in 10 Serie A appearances this season and is miles off the form that saw him bag 27 goals in 48 outings last season, but Italian outlet Calciomercato pointed out his accuracy as a strong trait in October:
The 22-year-old has also seen his playing time at the San Siro decrease of late. Icardi played the full 90 minutes in six consecutive league matches earlier this term, but he has been subbed off in his last three successive games.
Manager Roberto Mancini may be having second thoughts about electing the controversial South American as captain earlier this year, and Icardi has spoken out about a lack of service, per Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia):
"It’s the perfect evening because we won and it’s what we had to do. I knew that the goal had to arrive sooner or later, but the important thing is that we brought home the three points.
The drought didn’t weigh on me, but it is true that when we play I don’t get much service. It’s a shame, as I am a striker and I can only score if the ball gets to me. In 10 games I received four decent passes and scored three goals. That seems like a good average to me.
"
Ammunition wouldn't be in short supply on Merseyside considering Liverpool have created the third-highest amount of chances in the Premier League (146) behind joint leaders Manchester City (167) and Arsenal (178), according to Squawka.
Icardi may consider a change of setting as he looks to rediscover his best attacking form, but Inter's reluctance to sell one of their most prized assets will test the Reds' resolve in 2016.
Klopp has higher chances of signing Inter starlet Donkor next year if recent comments from the emerging centre-back are anything to go by.
Donkor is currently on loan with Serie B outfit Bari, but he told Italian website Tuttomercatoweb of his desire to one day complete a "dream" move to Merseyside (via Inter's official website and Metro's Jon Harvey):
"When I heard about this possibility (joining Bari), I didn’t want to listen to other proposals. My dream? I want to play in England, Liverpool. I hope one day to achieve that."

The 20-year-old has a long way to go before Liverpool may consider him a serious target, having made just five senior appearances for Inter since arriving in Milan from Padova five years ago.
In any case, the chances of a transfer as early as 2016 appear slim considering Bari have the option to buy Donkor when his season-long deal at the club comes to an end next summer, per Football Italia:
The defender is currently a part of Ghana's under-20 setup after making nine appearances for their under-17 side and is still attempting to establish himself as a senior player in Italy's second tier.
However, Liverpool may take to Donkor's apparent versatility considering his only appearances for Bari this season have come in the full-back positions, increasing his profile as a malleable young talent.
