Marcus Rashford Added to Manchester United Squad for Match vs. Watford

Matt JonesNov 20, 2015

Manchester United have included 18-year-old starlet Marcus Rashford in their squad for Saturday’s clash with Watford.

As reported by Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, the youngster has been drafted into the group as a result of the club’s current striker crisis, which sees the likes of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marouane Fellaini all sidelined for the clash at Vicarage Road with fitness issues.

Rashford, an 18-year-old Mancunian, becomes the latest player from the academy to be in the first-team squad after Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have been handed places on the substitutes' bench.

Here’s a closer look at what United fans should expect from Rashford, who is a dynamic, strong and skilful forward:

“Marcus is explosive, he’s a very talented boy but a good, hard worker as well,” said youth team coach Nicky Butt earlier in the season, per Rob Dawson of the Manchester Evening News, who identified Rashford as a “future star.”

“He’s a good lad to have in the side because he puts a shift in for the team. He’s explosive and he scores goals,” Butt said.

Luckhurst wrote that the striker is the latest product of the Fletcher Moss football club to become an academy star, with the likes of Wes Brown and Danny Welbeck emerging from the junior side.

It’s also noted that Manchester City tried to lure the youngster away from Old Trafford last year, but he decided to stay and has scored six goals in 11 appearances for the under-18s this term.

As well as Rashford, 20-year-old Sean Goss has been called up to the first team.

Saturday's game could see the Red Devils temporarily move to the top of the table, and as such, there is brilliant incentive for these young talents to take their golden opportunity.
