Jarrett Stidham Injury: Updates on Baylor QB's Ankle and Return

Baylor Bears quarterback Jarrett Stidham left a Nov. 21 game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at halftime after suffering a broken ankle and fibula. He has been ruled out for the season.

Stidham's Absence Latest Blow Under Center for Bears

Opening-week starter Seth Russell has been out of the lineup after suffering a neck injury that required season-ending surgery. Baylor was 7-0 in the games Russell started, and the team was seemingly on a path to the College Football Playoff.

Stidham, while an efficient passer, hasn't brought the same level of explosiveness on the ground. The Bears lost to Oklahoma in large part because of their inability to control the tempo with their running game, which had been a huge part of their offense during the first half of the season.

Chris Johnson, who replaced Stidham, is an imposing figure at 6'5" and 235 pounds, but he has limited experience. He's received more work as a receiver than as a quarterback in 2015, so it's hard to imagine the Bears offense reaching its full potential with its third-string signal-caller.
