Former CFL and NFL quarterback Doug Flutie announced Wednesday that his parents died of heart attacks less than an hour apart.
Flutie, 53, took to Facebook to discuss the saddening news, indicating his father, Dick, had been in the hospital ill before suffering his heart attack, and then his mother, Joan, went into sudden cardiac arrest as well:
On Thursday, Chad Finn of Boston.com confirmed Flutie will resume his duties as a broadcaster for Saturday's Boston College vs. Notre Dame game on NBC.
Before he became a three-time CFL champion and was named the 1998 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year as the Buffalo Bills' signal-caller, Flutie won the Heisman Trophy at Boston College. He now serves as the lead Notre Dame football analyst for NBC Sports.
