Why the Redskins can cover the spread

The Redskins bounced back after their loss at New England two weeks ago in grand fashion, pounding New Orleans 47-14. The game was tied at 14-14 early in the second quarter, but Washington then scored 33 unanswered points on its way to equaling last season's win total.

The Redskins racked up 526 yards of offense on the day, including 225 on the ground, taking advantage of a porous Saints defense and costing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan his job.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins threw four touchdown passes last week and has now thrown eight touchdown passes—against just one pick—over the last three games. Running back Alfred Morris ran for 125 yards, his best performance since Week 1.

At 4-5, the Redskins sit just a half-game out of first place in the mediocre-at-best NFC East.

Why the Panthers can cover the spread

Carolina stuck with New England as the only remaining unbeatens in the league last week, beating Tennessee in Nashville 27-10. The Panthers took the lead for good on a short Cam Newton touchdown pass early in the second quarter and put the clamps on from there, limiting the Titans to a field goal over the final 38 minutes of the game to secure the victory and the cover as four-point road favorites. 

For the day, Carolina outrushed Tennessee 119-64, won time of possession by almost 12 minutes and took the turnover battle 2-0.
