Manchester United Flop Bebe Says That He Thought Interest Was a 'Joke'

Joe GallagherNov 17, 2015

Bebe was not one of Sir Alex Ferguson's famous strokes of genius, and he has admitted that even he was surprised by Manchester United's interest in 2010.

The Portuguese forward signed from Vitoria de Guimaraes for £7.4 million without having been watched by the decorated Scottish manager, per David Kent of MailOnline.

Four years and seven appearances later, Bebe left permanently for Benfica.

The 25-year-old concedes that he was surprised by the Red Devils' interest and initially thought it was some sort of prank, reported Jon Harvey of Metro.

"It was a shock for me, too," he said. "For the week leading up to it, I thought the whole thing was a joke. I thought they were leading me on."

Nobody's laughing, Bebe.
