NFL Confirms Jaguars Committed a False Start on Play Before Winning FG vs Ravens
The NFL acknowledged the officiating crew in Sunday's game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Baltimore Ravens missed a false start that would've resulted in a victory for the Ravens.
ESPN's Adam Schefter provided the full statement from NFL spokesman Michael Signora on Monday via Facebook:
"Inside of one minute remaining of either half, with the game clock running, when the offense is not set simultaneously prior to the snap, it's a false start. This results in a 10-second runoff, which can only be avoided if a team has a timeout remaining.
The correct call in this case would have been to penalize the offense for a false start because all 11 players were not set, and whistle to stop the play. The ensuing 10-second runoff should have ended the game.

Instead, Jason Myers nailed a 53-yard field goal as time expired, and the Jaguars won 22-20.
A 15-yard facemask penalty on the previous play allowed Jacksonville renewed life after Elvis Dumervil had sacked Blake Bortles on a 4th-and-4 at the Baltimore 49-yard line. The Jaguars were then close enough for Myers' attempt.
"It's painful," Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith said, per Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. "It's probably the worst one we've had this year for the simple fact that we controlled that game. Defensively, we beat them up, and we didn't come out with the win. It's very frustrating. We have nothing to show for the work we put in this week."
"There's nothing we can do about it now," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Monday, per Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com. "It's unfortunate, it's disappointing, it's gut wrenching, it's just the way it goes. But in the end, we have to overcome all of that stuff.”
The Ravens are now 2-7, and their playoff hopes are on life support. Baltimore will likely have to win its next seven games to have a chance to qualify for the postseason. Jacksonville is 3-6 and only one game behind the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts.
