Manchester United Transfer News: James Rodriguez Talks Reported, Latest Rumours
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Jorge Mendes, agent of Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, to discuss a potential transfer for the Los Blancos star.
That's according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Metro's George Bellshaw), who notes the midfielder is unsettled at the Bernabeu under new manager Rafael Benitez and Mendes has made contact "with the Red Devils to get the ball rolling."
Rodriguez has missed much of the current season due to injury but bagged a stunning 17 goals and 18 assists in all competitions last year.

Football journalists Sergi Dominguez and Dermot Corrigan have highlighted his importance to Madrid, prior to his return to action with a goal against Sevilla in his last outing:
The 24-year-old could play an equally crucial role for United, who have struggled to create chances this season. Squawka Football shared the damning numbers before the Red Devils' 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion:
Rodriguez is immensely creative, incredibly gifted technically and more than capable of contributing goals of his own, too. His acquisition would be a sensational move and would undoubtedly have a massive impact on United's play in the final third, which has thus far been especially lacklustre.
However, AS (h/t Football Espana) is reporting the No. 10 is hoping for a new and improved contract at the Bernabeu rather than a move to Old Trafford.
If the Colombian's contract demands aren't met, he may then look elsewhere and the discussions with Mendes could have laid some of the groundwork to ensure United is his next destination, but for the time being, Rodriguez looks set to stay in the Spanish capital.
The Red Devils are also hoping to be at the front of the queue for Leeds United youngster Lewis Cook, according to ESPN FC.

ESPN's report notes several top English clubs, including United, are hoping to snap up the coveted midfielder with boss Louis van Gaal looking to build a team around him and their other young stars.
The report adds context to United's interest, as the 18-year-old impressed at Elland Road last season, making 38 appearances, and won the Championship Apprentice of the Year award for his efforts.
According to Squawka, the Englishman has successfully won 21 tackles and 11 headed duels in 12 Championship appearances this year, completed 17 take-ons from an attempted 23 and created 16 chances.
As the Premier League's other elite sides are also targeting Cook, United will undoubtedly face stiff competition in landing the youngster.
If the Red Devils make their interest in him concrete, they will need to point to the opportunities given to their own young talent, such as Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, though Adnan Januzaj's struggle to earn a consistent run in the team and subsequent loan will equally serve as a cautionary tale.
