Kompany Key to City Silverware Hopes
The 29-year-old centre-back is a crucial part of the Sky Blues back line, providing leadership that simply does not exist in his absence.
Unfortunately for Kompany, the calf problem that has blighted his 2015-16 campaign has flared up with alarming frequency this term. He has missed time for both club and country, and City's title assault has stuttered as a result.
While City don't have another centre-back of Kompany's calibre in the squad, they do have plenty of alternatives. Eliaquim Mangala, Martin Demichelis and Nicolas Otamendi have all tried to fill the void, but there is no cohesion without the skipper.
The authority Kompany brings to the table is essentially irreplaceable, so City will hope he can stay fit until the end of the campaign.
